Porto to Lisbon - August 18, 2009

Published by jim under adventures | Travel

The next morning I got up early to take some photos and had a nice talk with Joao before breakfast. I already mentioned breakfast but I would add that a little old lady delivered fruit and bread while I was talking to Joao. The Guest House Douro in Porto was my favorite lodging followed very closely by Posada del Valle in Picos de Europa.

After breakfast we toured the city a per Joao’s instructions with two purposes.
The first to see the manikin men on display that we had seen on the way in and the second to get some Euros. We did both in about two hours and then headed to Lisbon. By this time in our journey we were both on the tired side as we had now driven about 3700 k and stayed in 11 different hotels in 10 different locations. The drive to Lisbon was beautiful but uneventful. We arrived in down town Lisbon to find our NH hotel. It was just another NH hotel with a normal room nothing to write about. In the afternoon we walked down the boulevard to the river and had some lunch and watched people. We ( I should say G) found a Zara store and a H& M. (Both women’s apparel) She went into the Zara as I waited outside. There was a guy sitting on the sidewalk with a sign that said something about touring Europe and could you give me some money. I didn’t give him money, but it did give me an idea for a sign of my own. Let’s see. Maybe something like, “I am independently wealthy, however, my girlfriend has been in Zara for the past 30 minutes with my credit card and I am concerned for my net worth. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated.”  G doesn’t find that very amusing and needs to add that she spent $5.86 on her very OWN credit card!

We went back to the hotel and had a nice night’s sleep.
