There is not much about Punting that I can tell you other than it is a lot of fun; it is a big deal in Cambrdge; it can be done by people who have zero experience at it and I did not see anyone end up in the water. The river is a couple of miles long and goes thru the center of Cambridge. G, Phil and I all took our turns and we had a great laugh.
The boats are flat bottom and the river is not deep. The person "punting" stands on the back with a poll providing locomation and steering with the poll.
There are a number of bridges which put a little spice in the whole punting thing. Also. the people punting who have little or no ability to punt, which is most of us, tend to ram into the bank and other boats. At one point Phil ran into another boat (clearly not his fault) causing someone in the other boat the yell "now that was a proper crash" Sounds pretty Engish to me.
I particularly liked Phil's one-legged technique.
I think the punting, like everything else, is all about technique. You can see how serious G was while navigating the gauntlet and keeping Phil and I safe from bodily harm.
