We started our last full day in Europe with breakfast at Phil and Zoe's house. We dropped G off to spend time in thrift shops while Phil and I went to Tele-tubbey land (see post by same name. It is actually the Applied Mathematics section of Cambridge University.) We spent most of the morning photographing various sites on campus and ended up meeting G at a church that was also a restaurant. We toured Trinity Cathedral and then walked around town for some time.
We drove to a small town not far away from Cambridge to a Pub that was truly English. The soup was served depending what color it was; The darker the older. We had cider and a sandwich. I can't really tell you exactly where it was or the name of it, but I can highly recommend it. It must have been a carriage house on the way from London to Cambridge and I am sure it has been there for hundreds of years.
We met Zoe at her lab and took an amazing tour. The lab is quite large with really impressive equipment everywhere.
We then headed to Downing College for a round of Croquet and High Table. I don't think I need to explain Croquet other than it was official as Phil actually had a rule book.
As for High Table, that was a real treat. The Fellows of Downing College have a dinner I think three time per week that they can go to if they wish. The Fellows wear the cap and gown. (Probably not called that in the UK.) The dinner is very formal and at this particular one I would imagine there were 20 people present. The dinner last several hours. It is truly a great experience. I thank Zoe for the opportunity.
